“I fully support JAKIM. It’s one of the ways we can move Jakarta closer to becoming a global city,” he remarked.
Karno highlighted that JAKIM 2025 reflects international prestige, with runners from 51 countries participating across five marathon categories. He emphasized the need to regularly organize such events to raise Jakarta’s global profile.
“In the past, our marathons were mostly local. Now we’re seeing runners from abroad—Malaysian running communities, for example, regularly participate in marathons across Asia,” he noted.
He also pointed out that international events like JAKIM benefit the local economy, especially micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
“While the impact may not be immediately visible, it clearly stimulates economic activity—particularly for MSMEs,” he said.
Earlier, Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo reaffirmed Jakarta’s goal of joining the world’s top 50 global cities during the city’s 498th anniversary ceremony at Monas on June 22.
The Jakarta Provincial Government has outlined a 2025–2029 development vision to become a globally competitive and sustainable economic hub that ensures the well-being of all residents.
“This vision offers a clear and measurable path while preserving the city’s cultural heritage and identity,” Governor Pramono stated.
